Merchant honored as Cass City’s VFW Post Commander
After honoring the fellow veterans of Cass City Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3644, it was finally the turn of Dennis Merchant “Joe” to be felicitated and be honored himself.
Dennis Merchant was the post commander of the Cass City Veteran of Foreign Wars who served the US Army in the infamous Vietnam War in 1970-71. However, Merchant has now dedicated his time and life to the upliftment of the community of ex-servicemen who fought and surrendered their lives in the war.
According to Dennis Merchant, the Cass City VFW is now backed by around 90 members, with around 15-20 core members who have, like Joe, dedicated their lives for the cause.
This group recently received a greater impetus when Dennis Merchant accepted the honorary white Post Commander’s hat and a plaque, which honored City Cass Post 3644 as an invincible part of this year’s All State’s Post.
In his speech, Dennis gave full credit to the ex-VWF members, who secured much money and initiated the process of purchasing the VWF Hall that has a seating capacity of around 250 members. This VWF Hall is given for various important meetings free of cost—like, the meeting of Cass City Boy Scouts and to the Red Cross for various blood donations and other fund raisers. According to Merchant, this serves a “two-fold purpose”—one, it infusesa “camaraderie of people that share a common bond” and, lastly, it also sums up to the veterans the services that are available to them.
